THE MODEL:
The USS Star Hawk was was first designed on paper as I usually do. I like designing on paper first so I can make changes that I want before building the model. The ship is designed as a Scout Ship that explores planets in the galaxy. It has limited range, so must stay near a space station.

SCALE:
The model was built to a scale of 1" = 20'
The model is approximately 15" long.

CONSTRUCTION:
The basic hull for the ship was made from Leggs Panty Hose containers. I hit my wifes friends up for as many of them as I could get. I made the sections that join them together, as well as the control deck, engines, wings etc. from Evergreen sheet styrene. I added details from various parts, including electronics parts, assorted kit parts, etc. The figures in the control area were carved from styrene. I painted the model with Poly S paints. The painted details were done by hand using Testors paints and a small brush. I masked off some of the area's on the ship with Scotch Magic tape before painting them. It has limited weathering since I wanted it to look like it had just been put into service.
