THE MODEL: The Orion was designed on paper
before actual construction began. I designed it as a large Battle
Cruiser. It has facilities for a large number of 1 and 2 man fighters.
It is also equipped with Photon Torpedo's, Plasma Cannons, and various other armament.
SCALE: The model was built to a scale of 1"=100'.
The actual model is approximately 12" long and 9" high.
COSTRUCTION: The model was built from plummers
pvc tubing, sheet styrene and other parts. The large Plasma cannon was
made from the landing gear of a Jet Aircraft model I had in my parts box.
The base of the cannon was made from the running gear of a tank kit. The
2 man fighter coming out of the landing bay was carved from styrene. I
added various details from electronic parts, various kit parts, Model RR
parts, and styrene. Making the "nose cones" was the hardest thing to do
since I needed them both to match. The model was painted with Poly S paints.
I weathered the model with a hot soldering iron, and pastel chalks.
