THE MODEL:
The Connestoga was designed
as an Intersteller Space Freighter. I got the idea for it from one of my
many SciFi books. It was built as a modular vehicle so that the cargo containers
can be added or removed as needed. The cargo containers are also numbered
according to the type of cargo they hold.
SCALE:
The model is built to a scale of 1"=50'.
The actual size is approximately 18" long.
CONSTRUCTION:
I began by building the
containers from sheet styrene. I also made the forward, and engine sections
from sheet styrene. I used car stereo knobs to join the sections together.
The smaller engines were made from paper rolls used in adding machines.
The domes on the front are from a vending machine (the type that you get
small toys etc. in). I added a variety of details from my spare parts box
and pieces of styrene. I painted the model using Floquil Poly S and Testors
brand paints. The lettering was done with dry transfers. I weathered the
model with Floquil Poly S paints and pastel chalks.
